3 Rivers Round Two 2014

Match report by Neil Magee:

Sunday 10th August

Three Rivers League

2nd Leg

@ Northumbria

A strong Edinburgh again dominated proceedings, all the riders today doing a great job in what was at times very wet conditions. Glasgow also travelled back north with some points, beating the hosts in the final match, but Northumbria were still happy, using the fixture to give debuts to three new young riders. Josh Embleton, Archie Freeman and Dean Douglas all actually ride motor speedway and had raced at Redcar the day before, taking on the cycle version for the first time today, the verdict, cycle speedway is much harder ! But more importantly they loved it and will be back very soon.

In the support event Shoot Out Individual, Gavin Parr beat Mikey Hewtison in the final, Gavin having also finished top scorer in a series of heats before the knockout finale.

And tk's take on the day:

Great to see some more new faces on the track, and this time it was our turn to display our very recently aquired fresh talent. Joining Lee in the Under 10 age group is Archie, keen enough to insist on his own bike after just one practice run! His junior speedway pals Dean and Josh are quite a bit older and exactly fit the teenage profile we've been desperate to attract. They all got stuck in gamely in horrible conditions and we just have to hope they'll stick around.

A special mention must go to Mikey and Marcin, the latter staying wet and dirty after his final match just to take a ride in Neil's Shootout and Mikey turning out for just the Shootout itself. Great support from our Scottish (and Polish!) pals. And well done to our own Richie Smith who can't get to many of our matches but turned out in this one and performed really well.
